Thanksgiving tribute concert in which more than two dozen Minnesota artists recreate The Band's farewell show 'The Last Waltz', marking its 50th anniversary.
Minnesota's Last Waltz returns to The Parkway Theater on Saturday, November 28, 2026, for a tribute to The Band. This particular show marks the 50th anniversary of the original Minnesota production, which first brought the music to a local stage.
The whole thing is a recreation of The Last Waltz, the farewell concert The Band played on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1976. That night, they were joined by more than a dozen guests, including Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Neil Young, Muddy Waters, and Ringo Starr. Martin Scorsese filmed it, and it came out in 1978 as a documentary that's since become one of the most famous concert films ever made.
This tribute has turned into a Thanksgiving weekend tradition here in the Twin Cities. More than two dozen Minnesota artists gather to recreate the music, with local musicians stepping into the roles of The Band and many others playing the guests from the film. For this 2026 edition, the core roles are filled by Jon Herchert as Robbie Robertson, David J. Russ as Levon Helm, Chad Whittaker as Rick Danko, Peter J. Sands as Garth Hudson, and Buzz Chopper as Richard Manuel.
