Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Melissa Manchester performs live at The Dakota.
Melissa Manchester plays The Dakota on Saturday, October 17, at 7 PM. She's a Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter with a career that stretches across pop, jazz, musical theater, and the Great American Songbook. If you've heard her name but can't quite place the songs, you probably know 'Midnight Blue,' 'Don't Cry Out Loud,' 'Whenever I Call You Friend,' and 'You Should Hear How She Talks About You.'
There's a bit of history behind her that doesn't come up often: she was the first artist to have two Academy Award-nominated songs in a single year and to perform both on the same Oscar telecast. That's a rare kind of run, and it speaks to how much of her work has lived in the public ear over the decades. She's a Los Angeles native, and that West Coast pop sensibility runs through a lot of the hits people still associate with her.
She's also coming off a new project. Her latest album, RE:VIEW, reimagines and re-records many of her nineteen Billboard-charted songs, so it's a look back at the material that put her on the map, played with the perspective she has now. Between that and her wider repertoire, the set should pull from a few different eras and styles.
