Concert by hip-hop artist MC Lyte at The Dakota in Minneapolis.
MC Lyte plays The Dakota on Wednesday, October 21, at 7 PM. It's a single-bill night, so she's the only name on the marquee. If you've followed her career, you know she's one of the few who's been in the game since the beginning and stayed active through it all, and this is a chance to catch her live in a room where the focus is entirely on her.
For those who might need a refresher, Lyte was one of the first women to find success in hip-hop, breaking through in the mid-80s with a style that was as much about the delivery as it was about the lyrics. She's a pioneer of the era when rap was still finding its footing, and she's spent the decades since keeping her name in the conversation. Seeing her in a setting like The Dakota puts her right in front of you, without a huge production or a long lineup to work through.
