Grammy-nominated duo Manu Delago (handpan) and Max ZT (hammered dulcimer) create immersive soundscapes, part of The Cedar's Global Roots Series.
Manu Delago and Max ZT play The Cedar Cultural Center on Friday, March 26, 2027. It's a duo pairing that brings together two instruments you don't often see on the same stage: the handpan and the hammered dulcimer. The night is part of The Cedar's Global Roots Series, the year-round program of global artists and musical traditions the venue runs throughout the city.
Delago is a Grammy-nominated Austrian composer and percussionist who's worked with Bjƶrk, Anoushka Shankar, and The Cinematic Orchestra, and has appeared as a soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra and Metropole Orkest. His acoustic percussion blends with electronic beats and live visuals that bring the sounds of water, fire, animals, and wind into the room. ZT, whom NPR has called "The Jimi Hendrix of the Hammered Dulcimer," has spent a lifetime of global study and innovation, apprenticing with Senegal's revered Cissoko Griot family and studying under the legendary Shivkumar Sharma in India. Together they're a new duo reimagining what their instruments can do when they play side by side.
