New Orleans songwriter Maggie Koerner performs her debut solo album 'Upstate' with special guest Susie McCollum at The Cedar Cultural Center.
Maggie Koerner plays The Cedar Cultural Center on Friday, October 23, with Susie McCollum joining her on stage. The show is part of the venue's Friday Night Acoustics series, so it's a stripped-back bill rather than a full band setup.
Koerner is a New Orleans songwriter who's been working in the public eye for over a decade. She put out her debut solo album in 2011, and not long after that she became the frontwoman for Galactic. That's where she really made a name for herself, touring with Widespread Panic, Charles Bradley, and Dr. John, and earning a reputation for fiery performances and a commanding stage presence. In 2016 she teamed up with UK songwriter Fink on the EP Dig Down Deep, and her latest album, UPSTATE, arrived in 2025 to critical acclaim. This date is part of the tour for that record, so you can expect a good chunk of the set to come from the new material.
With Susie McCollum on the bill, the night will lean into the acoustic side of things. The Cedar's Friday Night Acoustics series is built around that kind of stripped-down, listening-room format, so it's a good fit for a songwriter who's spent a fair amount of time fronting a loud New Orleans funk band. Between the new songs from UPSTATE and the older material she's been carrying since 2011, there's plenty to pull from for a full evening.
