Lloyd Cole brings his elegant solo live performances back to the stage with an electric show spanning his recording career.
Lloyd Cole plays The Dakota on Monday, October 19, from 7 PM to 9 PM. It's a solo electric set, which is a bit of a shift from where he's been lately. For years, his solo shows have leaned acoustic, but this time he's back on stage with his Telecaster and Princeton amplifier. The set spans his recording career, from Rattlesnakes all the way through to 2023's On Pain.
If you're coming to him from the early days, Rattlesnakes was the debut he fronted with Lloyd Cole and the Commotions between 1984 and 1989, a record known for its literary and pop-culture nods to Norman Mailer, Truman Capote, and Joan Didion. After the group split in 1989, he moved to New York and put out a string of solo albums: Lloyd Cole (1990) and Don't Get Weird on Me Babe (1991), which paired rock with a session orchestra, then Bad Vibes (1993) and Love Story (1995), the latter of which produced the hit "Like Lovers Do."

Later records took him in different directions—the stark, folk-inspired Music in a Foreign Language (2003) and Antidepressant (2006)—and the electric set here reaches forward to On Pain, released in 2023. The Dakota is the Minneapolis venue Prince frequented. The show runs from 7 PM to 9 PM at 1010 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, MN 55403.
