Texas roots-music icon Lee Roy Parnell plays an acoustic trio show at The Dakota, with Americana duo Goldpine as special guest.
Lee Roy Parnell plays The Dakota on Sunday, November 22, performing as an acoustic trio. He's joined by special guest Goldpine, a husband-and-wife Americana duo whose third album, Three, was captured from live performances in 2024.
Parnell is a Texas roots-music triple threat: an ace slide guitarist, a soul-drenched vocalist, and a top-shelf songwriter. Born in Abilene and raised in Stephenville, he's built a sound that pulls from a wide range of American styles—Blue-Eyed Soul, Delta Blues, Roadhouse Rock, Southern Boogie, Texas Swing, Country, and Gospel. That slide guitar work is a good place to start if you're not familiar with him; it's a signature part of his sound.
He's earned two GRAMMY nominations, one for "Cat Walk" with Flaco Jiménez and another for "Mama, Screw Your Wig On Tight," and a CMA Vocal Event of the Year nomination for "John the Revelator" with The Fairfield Four. In 2011, he was inducted into the Texas Heritage Songwriters' Hall of Fame, and Gibson honored him with two signature guitars: a '57 Les Paul Goldtop and a 1959 Les Paul Standard. He's collaborated with the likes of The Allman Brothers Band, Merle Haggard, Bonnie Raitt, BB King, and Delbert McClinton, and released Midnight Believer in 2017. Chris Stapleton recorded "Worry B Gone," which Parnell co-wrote with Guy Clark and Gary Nicholson.
