Late-night Halloween DJ set by Tarik Thornton, host of the KRSM Radio show 'Quiet Village', at Berlin Minneapolis.
Tarik Thornton takes over Berlin on Saturday, October 31, for a late-night DJ set that leans into the holiday. It's part of the Berlin Minneapolis Jazz Festival, and the theme is right there in the description: Thornton is digging through his collection for his eeriest Halloween tunes.
If you're not familiar with him, Thornton is a South Minneapolis DJ and the host of Quiet Village, the cult-favorite radio show he's been airing on Saturdays at 5 PM on KRSM Radio for the past eight years. A New Orleans native, he's known as a crate-digging connoisseur with a deep reverence for funk, soul, and hip-hop, and he's shared the stage with artists like Durand Jones and Bun B.
There's more to his work than the radio show. In 2015, he and DJ Skizz co-founded Different Worlds Music Group, a label that's become a home for raw, boundary-pushing hip-hop production from artists like Crimeapple, Roc Marciano, Westside Gunn, and the late Sean Price. That background in the grittier side of hip-hop production informs the kind of digging he does, and it's a good hint at where he might go when he's looking for the eerie stuff.

Since this is a late-night set, it's one of those things you can drift into after your other Halloween plans are wrapped. It starts at 10:30 PM at Berlin, and it's $5 at the door.
