Late-night DJ set by Minnesota's DJ McShellen, blending Afrobeats, amapiano, Afrohouse, funk, R&B, hip-hop and bounce.
DJ McShellen takes over Berlin in the North Loop on Friday, November 6, for a late-night set that runs well past midnight. The night is part of the Late Night Lounge: Rhythm Rotation series, and McShellen is the sole feature on the bill.
If you haven't caught her yet, McShellen is a Minnesota-based open-format DJ of Cameroonian roots who grew up with a deep, inherited love of music. She's becoming a rising force in the local scene, known for her authentic energy, her song selection, and a genre-blending sound. Her sets work as a melting pot of feel-good throwbacks and futuristic finds, spotlighting Afrobeats, amapiano, and Afrohouse, alongside funk fusion, R&B, hip-hop, and bounce. The whole thing leans heavily into rhythms from the African diaspora.
That open-format approach is exactly what the Rhythm Rotation title points to. Rather than sticking to one lane, she pulls from a wide range of sounds—Afropiano, house, and R&B—and weaves them together. It's the kind of set that can shift from a familiar throwback to something newer and more global without missing a beat, and the African diaspora rhythms are the common thread that holds it all together.
