Weekly Monday night of jazz, Gospel and funk with drummer Arthur 'L.A.' Buckner and The Homework House Band, with audience games.
Arthur L.A. Buckner leads L.A.'s Monday Nights at Icehouse on Monday, October 26, as part of a residency that runs throughout the fall. It's a jazz and funk jam with Buckner on drums and The Homework House Band—Omar Abdulkarim on trumpet and flugelhorn, Ethan Yeshaya on bass, and Kevin Gamble on keyboards—and rotating special guests sitting in on vocals, horns and other instruments. The night is built for the room to play along, with audience activities and games to get the crowd involved.
Buckner is a performing musician, teaching artist and producer from the Northside of Minneapolis. He holds a Master's in Percussion Performance from McNally Smith College of Music and serves as a professor of Race & Identity at the University of Minnesota. In 2020 he released the project BiG HOMiE, which reached the #1 Jazz position on iTunes within 24 hours. He was named 2024 Music Educator of the Year by the Minnesota Music Education Association and co-hosts the award-winning PBS music education YouTube series Sound Field. His artistry blends jazz, Gospel, hip hop and avant-funk.
