Weekly Monday night of jazz and funk jam led by drummer L.A. Buckner and The Homework House Band, with special guest vocalists.
Arthur 'L.A.' Buckner is back at Icehouse on Monday, October 19, as part of his residency, L.A.'s Monday Nights. It's a jazz and funk jam built around his new combo, The Homework House Band, and it's one of several dates he's playing through the end of the year. If you can't make this one, he's also scheduled for November 2 and December 21, with the full residency running every Monday through December 28.
On drums is Buckner himself, and The Homework House Band fills out the rest: Omar Abdulkarim on trumpet and flugelhorn, Ethan Yeshaya on bass, and Kevin Gamble on keyboards. The night is rounded out with rotating special guest vocalists and audience activities, and it's worth noting it isn't an open micβthe music stays centered on the band. The residency format means the lineup stays consistent while the guests change from week to week.
Buckner is a Northside Minneapolis musician, teaching artist, and producer who holds a Master's in Percussion Performance from McNally Smith College of Music. He co-hosts Sound Field, the award-winning PBS music education series on YouTube, and teaches Race & Identity at the University of Minnesota. In 2020, he released BiG HOMiE, which hit number one on the iTunes jazz chart within 24 hours, and the Minnesota Music Education Association named him 2024 Music Educator of the Year.
