Live concert by Brooklyn guitarist Kaki King, known for tapping and slapping on her acoustic and lap steel guitars, at The Parkway Theater.
Kaki King plays The Parkway Theater on Sunday, March 14, 2027. She's a Brooklyn-based guitarist who works with acoustic and lap steel, and if you've never seen her live, the best way to describe her style is that she treats the guitar as much as a percussion instrument as a melodic one. She taps, slaps, and hits the body of the guitar alongside intricate fingerpicking, so you'll hear the wood and the strings working together.
Rolling Stone called her "a genre unto herself" and named her one of their "New Guitar Gods" in 2006, when she was the youngest artist and the only woman on the list. Since then, she's put out eight studio albums and pushed the instrument into multimedia territory with works like The Neck Is A Bridge To The Body and Modern Yesterdays. She also wrote the children's musical BUGS. Most recently, she released three EPs in 2025: Tutto Passa, SEI, and Stop Sometime.
Her work has reached well beyond the guitar world. In 2007, she composed the score for Into the Wild, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Score, and she recorded two tracks for August Rush, where she also appeared as a guitar-playing hand double. She's appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and Later with Jools Holland, and Dave Grohl once asked her to duet on "Ballad of The Beaconsfield Miners."
