Jazz guitarist John Scofield plays The Dakota with Oteil Burbridge, Adam Deitch and Larry Goldings.
John Scofield brings his Electrospective set to The Dakota on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at 9 PM. He's not playing solo: he'll be joined by bassist Oteil Burbridge, drummer Adam Deitch, and keyboardist Larry Goldings. It's a quartet that pulls from different corners of the jazz and funk worlds, and they're all coming together for this one night in Minneapolis.
If you're not familiar with Scofield, he's a jazz guitarist and composer who's spent decades moving between styles. He's a bebop master who mixes R&B and blues into his playing, and he's worked with some of the biggest names in the business. He recorded with Charles Mingus in 1976 and replaced Pat Metheny in Gary Burton's quartet. His first album, East Meets West, came out in 1977, and he later joined Miles Davis, staying with him until 1985 and releasing Electric Outlet in 1984. In the early 1990s, he formed a quartet with Joe Lovano and recorded several albums for Blue Note; in 1997, he put out A Go Go, backed by Medeski, Martin and Wood. Since then, he's jammed with Medeski, Martin and Wood again and released Out Louder in 2006 and This Meets That in 2007, the latter backed by the Sco Horns, a three-piece horn section.
That history—the bebop, the electric Miles years, the Blue Note quartet, and the jam-heavy records—is exactly what Electrospective points back to. It's a look across the different phases of his career, and with Burbridge, Deitch, and Goldings on the bandstand, he's got a group capable of handling the funk, the swing, and the more open, improvisational stuff. It's a big night for a single set.
