John C. Reilly brings his one-man show, Mister Romantic, to The Parkway Theater on Monday, December 7, 2026. It's a vaudevillian turn for the actor, who performs under the stage name Mister Romantic—a persona he created for what he calls his most personal project to date. The show is an emotional one-man set in which he sings and performs melodies from the Great American Songbook, and he describes it as being born "out of both hope and despair."
Reilly is an Academy, Grammy, and Tony nominee, and he built the show to foster empathy and love. It's a solo night, so it's just him on stage with these standards. The reception has been strong: Vanity Fair called it "fiercely funny," and Theaterly named it one of the best performances of 2024 after its one-night-only New York City debut. The New York Times described it as "wryly funny, sometimes tender and sad, but always sincere."
For more than three decades, Reilly has been one of the most versatile actors of his generation. He earned Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for the musical Chicago and has collaborated with Paul Thomas Anderson, Martin Scorsese, and Robert Altman. He studied acting at The Theatre School at DePaul University, and this show finds him stepping back into the musical and vaudevillian tradition that sits close to those roots.
