Jeffrey Foucault plays The Parkway Theater with Minneapolis vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Molly Dean as special guest.
Jeffrey Foucault plays The Parkway Theater on Thursday, October 22, with Minneapolis vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Molly Dean opening the night. Foucault has built a reputation as one of the more distinctive voices in American music, known for a sound that strips things down to the essentials. The New Yorker called his songs "stark, literate," and Uncut described them as "beat-up troubadour folk whittled to dolorous perfection."
He'll be playing from The Universal Fire, which came out in September 2024. It's his first album of new material since 2018, and it carries a particular weight: it was recorded live in one room and dedicated to his late drummer and best friend, Billy Conway, who died of cancer in 2021. The record features members of Calexico and Bon Iver, including drummer John Convertino and producer/saxophonist Mike Lewis.
Molly Dean opens the bill. She's a Minneapolis local who layers guitar, voice, and looped harmonies into immersive soundscapes. Her 2025 album Interwoven was produced by S. Carey of Bon Iver and informed her winter residency at Icehouse. She also performs in the duo Shady Cove, which grew out of late-night sessions in a remote Oregon cabin.
