Evening of heat and flame with an exhibition of sculptural works, craft demonstrations and a bronze pour.
ISC Party & Pour is happening at the Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center on Friday, October 23, from 6 PM to 8 PM. It's a night centered around heat and flame, put on as part of the ISC Conference, and it's built around a few different things going on at once rather than one single performance.
First, there's an exhibition of sculptural works on display, so you can walk through and see the finished pieces. Alongside that, there are craft demonstrations, which means you'll see the process behind the work rather than just the end result. The main event, though, is the bronze pourโmolten metal being poured into molds right there in the space. If you've never seen one in person, it's a specific kind of spectacle: the glow of the furnace, the heat coming off the metal, and the moment it actually hits the mold. It's the kind of thing that's hard to describe but easy to recognize once you're standing in front of it.
Because the exhibition, the demonstrations, and the pour are all part of the same evening, you can move between them at your own pace. You can spend time with the sculptures, watch the demonstrations, and then hang around for the pour. It's a good way to see both the finished art and the labor that goes into it in one go.
