Annual holiday show with Irish music, song, dance and stories of seasonal Irish traditions, produced by OisĂn Mac Diarmada.
Irish Christmas in America comes to The Dakota on Monday, November 23, at 7 PM. It's a holiday show that returns each year, combining music, song, dance and stories of seasonal Irish traditions. The whole thing is produced by Sligo fiddler OisĂn Mac Diarmada, and he brings an all-Irish lineup to the stage for it.
On the bill are Cathy Jordan on vocals and bodhrán, Gráinne Hambly on Irish harp and concertina, CaoimhĂn Ă“ FearghaĂl on uilleann pipes and flute, Samantha Harvey on piano and dance, and Jack Warnock on guitar and vocals. That's a wide spread of traditional instruments—harp, pipes, concertina, bodhrán—alongside piano, guitar and singing, so the music moves through a good few different moods over the course of the night.
The performance pairs that music and dance with evocative photographic images to celebrate Christmas traditions in Ireland, and the show is rooted in Sligo, Mac Diarmada's home. It's as much about the stories as it is about the playing, with the music and the images working together to sketch out how Christmas is marked across the island.
