Grammy-winning folk-rock duo Indigo Girls perform with special guest Linda Perry at the State Theatre.
Indigo Girls play the State Theatre on Wednesday, October 21, with songwriter and producer Linda Perry opening. The duo is Emily Saliers and Amy Ray, and they've been at it for more than four decades now. They started in clubs and bars around their native Atlanta before signing to Epic Records in 1988; that major-label debut sold more than two million copies, driven by the singles "Closer to Fine" and "Kid Fears," and was the first of six consecutive Gold and/or Platinum-certified albums. Their signature is the harmony they build together, and they've put out 16 studio albums and sold over 15 million records.
They've stayed active on the political side too, working on racial justice, reproductive rights, immigration reform, LGBTQ advocacy, and Native American rights. "Closer to Fine" reached a new generation when it was featured in Greta Gerwig's Barbie. Their 2024 record Look Long brought them back into the studio with their strongest backing band to date, and their 2023 documentary Indigo Girls: It's Only Life After All was a New York Times Critic's Pick after premiering at Sundance.
