The New York trio Harriet Tubman and producer Georgia Anne Muldrow perform their immersive psychedelic fusion album at Icehouse.
Harriet Tubman and Georgia Anne Muldrow play Icehouse on Wednesday, November 11, with two sets at 6:30 PM and 9:00 PM. It's their Midwest debut, and they're performing their album Electrical Field of Love, a record of immersive psychedelic fusion.
Harriet Tubman is a New York trio that formed in 1998, when drummer J.T. Lewis, guitarist Brandon Ross, and bassist Melvin Gibbs came together. They took their name from the African American woman who helped more than 300 people escape slavery, and their music—a fusion of soul, rock, jazz, and blues—draws on those ideals of freedom. They cite Jimi Hendrix, Ornette Coleman, and Parliament-Funkadelic as part of their musical DNA, and they fold sampling and digital methods into an avant-garde sound.
Over the years, the trio has collaborated with a wide range of artists: Cassandra Wilson, Living Colour, Lou Reed, Herbie Hancock, Henry Threadgill, Sting, Arrested Development, David Murray, and Meshell Ndegeocello. Georgia Anne Muldrow, a forward-thinking vocalist and producer and close collaborator of Erykah Badu and Madlib, joins them for this album, wielding her voice like a lightning rod. The night marks the pair's first time playing in the Midwest.
