Pianist Hans Fuerst and his band DLC celebrate his album 'Evolutions in Game Sounds,' blending jazz and video game music.
Hans Fuerst and his band DLC play Berlin on Wednesday, November 25, from 7 PM to 9:30 PM. The set celebrates his album Evolutions in Game Sounds, and the whole thing sits right at the intersection of jazz and video game music.
Fuerst is a pianist and keyboardist who grew up on game soundtracks, and he describes that as the place he first fell in love with music. He formed DLC—the Down Loadable Collective—while studying at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, driven by a desire to bridge the jazz tradition with the game music of his childhood. Since then, he's set out to master and share that language. He's played with groups like Abandon Quest and the Race Hoglund Quintet, written original music for video games with Shattered Skye Games, and plays violin with the Twin Cities Gamer Symphony Orchestra. The album Evolutions in Game Sounds is the record this show is built around.
On stage, Fuerst is joined by a full band: Will DeBlaey on bass, Laeton Olaleye on saxophone, and RAWTWHYLAH on drums. DeBlaey has been Fuerst's longtime partner on bass, and together they're bringing the album's blend of jazz and game music to a live setting. It's a quartet, so you'll have piano, bass, sax, and drums working through the material.
