Celebration of Ghost Wagon's third full-length album, with special guest Becky Kapell. The night is 18+.
Ghost Wagon are playing Icehouse on Thursday, October 22, to celebrate their third full-length album. They'll be joined by special guest Becky Kapell.
Ghost Wagon is a collaborative project of similarly minded musicians led by singer/songwriter Chuck Nelson, who writes the songs and handles the vocals. He builds earnest, often darkly emotional tales around accessible melodies, and the whole thing carries a "come-join-us-on-the-front-porch" vibe. The record draws from Americana, rock, country, and folk in equal measure, and the band hails from St Paul. Their label describes the music simply as "American Music."
San Francisco DJ Michele K-Tel put a more specific spin on the sound, calling it pretty dark and likening it to the Jayhawks meeting John Mellencamp with a dash of John Doe and Exene. If you're familiar with those names, you can probably hear where the record sits: somewhere between the melodic heart of the Heartland and the grit of the roots scene.
