Dos Santos, a Chicago-based Latin music quintet, performs live with DJ Miguel Vargas as part of The Cedar's Global Roots Series.
Dos Santos play The Cedar Cultural Center on Friday, December 4, as part of the venue's Global Roots Series. They're a Chicago-based quintet that's been together since 2013, and they describe their sound as sitting at the edges of Latin music, pulling from ancestral rhythms across the Americas with flashes of barrio cumbias, psychedelic westerns, and moonlit desert serenades. It's a wide net to cast, and the live show is where they bring it all together.
At the core are drummer Daniel Villarreal, percussionist Peter 'Maestro' Vale, bassist Jaime Garza, guitarist Nathan Karagianis, and multi-instrumentalist, singer, and lyricist Alex E. Chávez. They're known for a progressive way of layering different Latin and American musics, and they've built their reputation on the live stage. This stop comes on the heels of their fourth album, produced by Grammy winner Beto Martinez, which they describe as an honest and loud return to the band's sonic beginnings.
