Concert by the Mexican art rock band Diles que no me maten, with support from The Swongos and ARDO, presented by KFAI.
Diles que no me maten play 7th St Entry on Monday, November 2, with The Swongos and ARDO opening. The show is presented by KFAI at the smaller room attached to First Avenue, the one that used to be the Greyhound Cafe area of the old Greyhound station.
Diles que no me maten are a five-piece from Mexico City, started in 2017 by brothers Raúl Ponce on drums and Gerardo Ponce on guitar. They describe their sound as built on a jam-based, krautrock philosophy, which they use to make wiry art rock with bluesy ballads and poetic mysticism mixed in. The lineup also includes Andrés Lupone on bass, Jerónimo Elizondo-García on guitar and clarinet, and Jonás Derbez on vocals and saxophone. With a clarinet and a saxophone in the mix, it's a bigger sound than your standard rock band.
They've been putting out records since 2020, starting with the debut EP Cayó de su Gloria el Diablo, then the LP Edificio, the breakout album La Vida de Alguien Más, and Obrigaggi. Their latest is Escrito en Agua (Writ in Water), released in 2025 and recorded in their Santa María La Ribera neighborhood with producer Sebastián Rojas. Between the new material and the older records, there's plenty to pull from for a set.
