Bedroom pop artist Dent May performs live at 7th St Entry as part of his North American fall tour supporting his album 'The Big One'.
Dent May plays the 7th St Entry on Friday, November 6, as part of his North American fall tour. He's out supporting The Big One, which came out August 14 on Carpark, his first full-length since 2024's What's for Breakfast?.
May is a bedroom pop auteur who describes his music as carrying an "ecstatic melancholy"—bittersweet, exuberant songs that break your heart while you can't help but sing along. That's a good way to frame what he does: the melodies are bright and catchy, but there's a sadness running underneath them that keeps the whole thing from feeling too light.
The Big One takes its title from the long-anticipated natural disaster that may or may not come to destroy the world, but May says the song is actually about any personal, life-altering moment that shakes you out of your comfort zone. The biggest of the big ones, he adds, is death. It's a heavy starting point for a record that still fits into that bedroom pop sound, and it gives the title track a weight that carries through the rest of the album.

He'll be playing the 7th St Entry, the smaller room attached to First Avenue. Since 1980, it's occupied what was once the Greyhound Cafe in the old Greyhound building, so it's a spot with its own history in the city. Doors open at 7 PM and the show starts at 8 PM.
