Cyril Neville, founding father of the New Orleans sound, plays The Parkway Theater.
Cyril Neville plays The Parkway Theater on Tuesday, December 15. Neville is one of the founding fathers of the New Orleans sound, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner who's been playing for five decades. His style sits at the intersection of funky soul and rock-jazz, and he's spent those years working with a long list of names across the board.
He started out singing and playing percussion with the Wild Tchoupitoulas Mardi Gras Indian Tribe before joining his brother Art's band, which eventually became The Meters. When he left The Meters in 1977, Art and Cyril formed the Neville Brothers, and their albums Yellow Moon and Brother's Keeper went on to become Grammy-winning classics. Since then, he's recorded with a who's who of rock, including Bob Dylan, Dr. John, Willie Nelson, Branford Marsalis and Carlos Santana, and co-written songs with Bono, Allen Toussant and Trombone Shorty. These days he tours with his son, Omari Neville, whose band backs him on stage.
