21+ show pairing cool neld, the stage name of Nelson Devereaux, with Ciao Bello, a Neo-Tropicalia duo blending reed instruments, beats and bossa nova.
cool neld and Ciao Bello play Icehouse on Wednesday, December 9, and it's the first time they're sharing a stage. The night pairs cool neld, the stage name of Northeast Minneapolis multi-instrumentalist and session artist Nelson Devereaux, with Ciao Bello, a Neo-Tropicalia duo of Matthew Sandstedt on guitar and vocals and Katharine Seggerman on drums and vocals. Together they're working with reed instruments, beats, and bossa nova, re-interpreting the jazz-inflected pop of the 1960s and 70s through a modern lens.
There's a direct connection between the two: Devereaux contributed saxophone and flute to Ciao Bello's debut record, and this is the first time he's performing live with them. Outside of that, he's a session player with a long list of credits—Bon Iver, Lizzo, Craig Finn, The Hold Steady, Mild High Club, This Is The Kit, Jungle, Paul Cherry, Layton Wu, and 9m88. In 2025, he played the saxophone solo on "More To Lose" from Miley Cyrus's Grammy-nominated record Something Beautiful.
Ciao Bello is the duo of Sandstedt and Seggerman, and the night brings their Neo-Tropicalia sound into the room with Devereaux's reeds on top. The set draws from the jazz-inflected pop of the sixties and seventies, and the combination of saxophone, flute, guitar, drums, and vocals is how they're bringing it to life. It's a 21+ show with limited seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.
