Live reading of original science fiction by Cole Sarar and guest writer Duck Washington, underscored by futurist soundscapes from musician Dameun Maurice Strange.
Cole Sarar brings his SciFi Reading Hour to Bryant Lake Bowl on Thursday, November 12, for a night of original science fiction read live and underscored by a futurist soundscape. The format pairs two writers with one musician, whose auditory landscapes run alongside the readings. For this installment, Sarar reads his own work alongside writer Duck Washington, with musician Dameun Maurice Strange providing the sound.
Sarar describes the series as a way to frame science fiction as a tool for society to consciously build its own futures and to imagine people of color, women, queer folks and immigrants in positions of power. The readings aren't just read in silence; they're set against a live score that shifts as the stories unfold.
Duck Washington is a Twin Cities theatre artist of thirty years—actor, director, audio designer, improviser and playwright—and the Executive Director of the Twin Cities Horror Festival. Dameun Maurice Strange is a Saint Paul sound artist, composer and multi-instrumentalist whose Afrofuturist work explores the African diaspora. Together, they'll be the voices and the sound for the evening.
