Night of funk and soul with three Minneapolis bands, Clean Plate Club, Becca Murray & The Wildflowers and Auronova, at The Hook and Ladder.
Clean Plate Club headlines a triple bill at The Hook and Ladder on Friday, November 20, with Becca Murray & The Wildflowers and Auronova joining them. The whole thing is in the theater room, and it's an 18+ night.
Clean Plate Club is a Minneapolis pop/soul and jazz-funk band that pulls from 70s legends like Earth, Wind & Fire, Michael Jackson and Tower of Power, alongside modern funk revivalists Cory Wong and Couch and Lawrence. The group grew out of the University of Minnesota Jazz I program, won the first round of the U of M Battle of the Bands in early 2025, and put out their debut single, "Tourist Trap," that same year.
Becca Murray & The Wildflowers is a five-piece indie pop band that formed in the fall of 2025, built around Murray's vocals and songwriting with warm sax, keys and guitar. Auronova is an eight-piece funk band fronted by singer Naomi Tschernach, who re-arranges funk and soul hits spanning the 1960s to the 2020s. Between the three, the bill runs from indie pop through funk and soul, with the 70s sound that Clean Plate Club leans on tying it together.
