Jazz-pop-classical revue by trumpeter Chris Botti, with Veronica Swift, Fernando Varela and Mark Whitfield, at The Dakota.
Chris Botti plays The Dakota on Friday, October 23, at 9 PM. He's not just stopping by for a single night; this is part of a three-night residency at the club, so if you can't make Friday, there are other chances to catch him.
Botti is a trumpeter from Corvallis, Oregon, and one of the biggest-selling American instrumental artists, with more than four million albums sold. He's spent the last few decades crossing over from jazz to pop audiences, a shift that really took hold with the 2004 release When I Fall In Love. Since then, his long association with PBS has helped him reach a wide audience, and he's put out four #1 jazz albums along the way. He's picked up multiple Gold, Platinum and Grammy Awards, including the 2013 Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Album for Impressions.
That crossover isn't just about the records. Over the last thirty years, he's shared the stage with a long list of names from across the musical spectrum: Sting, Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga, Yo-Yo Ma, Michael BublƩ, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Andrea Bocelli and Frank Sinatra. He's played venues like Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl and the Sydney Opera House, so he's used to playing for big rooms.
