Jazz concert by Chris Botti with Veronica Swift, Fernando Varela and Mark Whitfield at The Dakota.
Chris Botti plays The Dakota on Saturday, October 24, with the show starting at 6:30 PM. He's not coming alone: Veronica Swift, Fernando Varela, and Mark Whitfield are on the bill with him, so it's a full band on stage rather than a solo trumpet set.
If you're not familiar with the name, Botti is a trumpet player who's spent the last couple of decades crossing over from jazz into pop. He's become the largest-selling American instrumental artist since the 2004 release of When I Fall In Love, and he's put out four #1 jazz albums along the way. He's picked up multiple Gold and Platinum records, and a Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Album for his 2012 record Impressions.
What really puts his career in perspective is the list of people he's worked with. Over the last thirty years, he's recorded and performed with a who's-who of music: Sting, Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga, Yo-Yo Ma, Michael BublƩ, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, John Mayer, Andrea Bocelli, Joshua Bell, Steven Tyler, and even Frank Sinatra. He's played venues like Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Sydney Opera House, so this is a big name playing a relatively small room.
