Prairie Fire Choir closes its 16th season with a cappella music and The Foxgloves' Americana set in an all-ages show.
Prairie Fire Choir closes its sixteenth season with Burn and Bloom at The Parkway Theater on Sunday, November 8. They're sharing the bill with The Foxgloves, a Minneapolis Americana and Newgrass band that's been playing Midwest audiences since 2019. The night pairs the choir's a cappella sound with the band's foot-stomping set.
Prairie Fire Choir is a Twin Cities treble-voiced group of around seventy members. They perform multi-genre arrangements written by current and past members, and the range of artists they cover is wide: Prince, Queen, the Cranberries, Florence and the Machine, Fleetwood Mac, Chappell Roan, Radiohead, and Metallica. Hearing that list in a single set gives you an idea of how they approach a program—they're pulling from pop, rock, and heavy metal, all rearranged for a large treble choir.
Opening the night, The Foxgloves bring an Americana and Newgrass sound to the stage. They've been an all-women band based here in Minneapolis since 2019, and they describe their set as foot-stomping. Between the choir's vocal arrangements and the band's Americana, the evening moves from a cappella to a full band sound.
