Chicago jazz trio led by guitarist Brian Citro plays his original compositions and covers of Pat Metheny, Frank Ocean, Todd Rundgren and Carole King.
The Brian Citro Organ Trio plays Berlin Music Hall on Saturday, October 24, at 7:30 PM. The trio is led by guitarist Brian Citro, who'll be sharing the stage with Tom Vaitsas on piano and organ and Peter Mack on drums. The set mixes Citro's own compositions with covers of Pat Metheny, Frank Ocean, Todd Rundgren, and Carole King.
Citro has been playing and writing music for 35 years, and he's a 2025 City of Chicago Individual Artist Program awardee. His album Keep Moving (Home), on Calligram Records, collects 14 of his original pieces. The covers he brings into the mix pull from a wide range of songwriters, from the jazz-fusion of Metheny to the R&B of Ocean and the pop songwriting of Rundgren and King.
Vaitsas and Mack bring their own Chicago histories to the group. Vaitsas is a veteran of the city's music scene and once worked as a sideman for saxophonist Von Freeman. Mack leads his own Chicago Jamaican Jazz Ensemble. Together with Citro, they make up the trio's lineup for the night.
