Live concert by saxophonist Boney James, with his 2026 album 'A Simple Man', at The Dakota on Nicollet Mall.
Boney James plays The Dakota on Tuesday, November 24, 2026, at 6:30 PM. He's a multi-platinum saxophonist and composer whose career spans more than three decades, and he's still finding new ground.
He'll be touring his 2026 album, A Simple Man, his twentieth studio record. It's a personal one, and he brought in some heavy hitters for it: Grammy-winning vocalist Ledisi, trumpeter Marquis Hill, and guitarist Larry Carlton. If you've followed him for a while, you know he's always had a knack for pulling in guests who fit his sound, and this one is no different.
James has a long list of accolades behind him: four Grammy nominations, three NAACP Image Award nominations, four RIAA Gold-certified records, and a Soul Train Award. Billboard named him one of the Top Three Contemporary Jazz Artists of the 2000s, and in 2024 he became the first artist to score twenty Number One singles on the Billboard Smooth Jazz chart. He turned professional at nineteen, touring with Morris Day, The Isley Brothers, and Teena Marie, before releasing his 1992 debut, Trust.
