Late-night jazz session with a live set followed by an open jam at Jazz Central Studios.
Blue Dream Vol. 4 is at Jazz Central Studios on Sunday, October 25, running from 9 PM to midnight. It's the fourth installment of the Blue Dream sessions, and it follows the same late-night format as the others: one live set to start the night, followed by an open jam where the stage stays open for other musicians to jump in. If you've been to previous Blue Dream nights, you know the drill—the structured part comes first, and the open jam takes over for the rest of the evening.
The lineup for this one is a full septet. On the horns, you've got Josh Johnson on saxophone, DeCarlo Jackson on trumpet and flugelhorn, and Alex Karye on trombone. Levi Schwartzberg covers vibes and piano, with Will Linstrom on guitar, Matt McIntyre on bass, and Colin Mitchell, who goes by RAWTWHYLAH, on drums. That's three horns, two keyboard/vibes roles, guitar, bass, and drums—a big enough group to hold down a full sound on its own, and plenty of room for others to slot in once the jam opens up.
Jazz Central Studios is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that works to support the Twin Cities jazz community through performances, workshops, and educational programs. The studio is in the Old St. Anthony neighborhood on the west bank of the Mississippi, and it streams its shows live most Friday and Saturday nights, and some Thursdays, from 8:00 to 9:30 PM. Blue Dream runs as a late-night format, and this particular series is presented in part by the Minnesota Regional Arts Council and the Musicians Performance Fund.
