Album release concert by Bethany Larson & The Bee's Knees, with special guests Turn Turn Turn and The Twins of Franklin.
Bethany Larson & The Bee's Knees play The Parkway Theater on Sunday, November 1, for the release of their new album, Love and Lust and Settled Dust. It's their first record since 2011's When We Reach The City, so it's been fifteen years since their last full-length. They're sharing the bill with Turn Turn Turn and The Twins of Franklin.
The band is built around Larson and her brother, Chris Larson, on guitar, keys, and vocals. Alicia Kay joined on bass and vocals in 2021, bringing the three-part harmonies that have become the group's signature, and Sara Horishnyk is on drums. The album was produced by Adam Levy and Eric Martin, recorded at Salon Sonics and Clubhouse, and pressed on teal vinyl at Outta Wax here in Minneapolis, with Indiegogo backing the project. One of the songs, "Not Allowed," was written over a decade ago with Dolly Parton on her mind.
Larson grew up singing in her family's church in Austin, Minnesota, and wrote her early songs on a hand-me-down guitar. Her first shows were at Acadia Cafe, Dunn Brothers, and the 331 Club. After childhood trauma and a struggle with addiction, she became a vocal advocate for survivors of abuse and women's rights.
