The indie rock band Ax and the Hatchetmen perform their Late Check Out Tour 2026, with special guest Tipling Rock.
Ax and the Hatchetmen play First Avenue on Thursday, November 5, as part of their Late Check Out Tour 2026. It's a coast-to-coast run that brings their sunburnt guitars and jangly tunes to the masses, and the Minneapolis stop puts them in the Mainroom.
The band is an indie rock six-piece fronted by Axel Ellis. They started out in high school hallways outside Chicago and have since grown into a group with millions of listeners, a dedicated following, and nearly a decade of life on the road. That history is a good way to get a sense of where they are now: a band that's spent years playing live and has the catalog to show for it.
Opening for them is Tipling Rock, a Los Angeles-based band that first emerged from Boston in the summer of 2015. They describe their sound as "Beach Pop," a label they've claimed for themselves since the beginning. Between the two, you've got a six-piece indie rock band and a Beach Pop act on the same bill, so the night covers a fair bit of ground.
