Ana Gasteyer, SNL alum and Broadway star, brings her holiday album 'Sugar & Booze' to life with swing standards and comedy in a 1950s cocktail lounge style.
Ana Gasteyer returns to The Parkway Theater for two nights, Saturday, Nov. 14 and Sunday, Nov. 15, bringing her Sugar & Booze Holiday Spectacular back to Minneapolis. The show is built around her 2019 album Sugar & Booze, a collection of seasonal favorites and holiday originals that has stayed on "Best Holiday Album" lists and reached the Billboard Jazz Top 5. On stage, she's backed by a live horn section, and the set pairs swinging standards and holiday classics with comedy, all played in the style of a sophisticated 1950s cocktail lounge. The Los Angeles Times described her delivery on the title track as "delightfully swaggering" — the kind of energy Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. would have devoured — and Billboard called the album "an uproarious homage to Christmas albums of old."
Most of us know Gasteyer from Saturday Night Live, where she was a cast member from 1996 to 2002 and created characters like Bobbie Mohan-Culp and Margaret Jo. She's also a Broadway regular, with credits in Wicked, Kimberly Akimbo, Annie and the 2024 revival of Once Upon a Mattress. This show leans into her life as a singer and songwriter as much as her comedy, so it's less of a stand-up set and more of a musical revue.
