A talk by Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison paired with music and stories, encouraging civic engagement and voting.
Afford Your Life comes to First Avenue on Sunday, October 25, with Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison as the night's main feature. The event takes place in the Mainroom, and it's built around the idea that Minnesotans deserve to afford their lives and live with dignity, safety, and respect. Ellison, who has held office since voters first elected him in 2018 and calls himself "the People's Lawyer," will be there to talk about that, and he'll be encouraging everyone who comes out to get out the vote.
The night pairs that talk with music and stories, so it's not just a speech—it's a full evening. The core of it is the argument that anyone standing in the way of that dignity—from hedge funds to drug companies to the president—should be held accountable. It's a broad target, and the night is designed to let that idea breathe through both the talking and the music.

First Avenue has been the epicenter of live music and entertainment in Minneapolis since 1970, and it recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, so it's a familiar room for a night like this. Doors open at 4 PM and the show starts at 5 PM, which puts it on the earlier side for a Sunday evening. Entry is free on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you want a spot in the Mainroom, you'll want to get there well before the 5 PM start.
