Adam Meckler returns to Minneapolis to play two sets with an all-star local band at Berlin.
Adam Meckler is back in Minneapolis on Saturday, November 7, playing Berlin at 204 N 1st St. He's performing as the Adam Meckler Quintet, and the night is built around two full sets. It's a homecoming of sorts—Meckler is returning to the city to play with an all-star local band, so the quintet is a Minneapolis-based group rather than a touring one he's brought with him.
Having two sets means there's plenty of room for the music to stretch out. Instead of one long run, the evening is split, which usually gives a show a different kind of arc—a first set to settle in and a second to push further. With a quintet on stage, there's enough room for the full ensemble to play together and for smaller combinations to break off within the group. It's a good amount of music for one night.
Since he's working with a local band, the whole thing has a particular Minneapolis connection to it. The quintet is the vehicle for the evening, and the two-set format gives the group a chance to work through a fair amount of material. If you've followed Meckler's work, this is a chance to hear him back in town and playing with a full band around him.
