Twin Cities Ballet presents A Minnesota Nutcracker, a holiday classic with a Minnesota twist, featuring iconic state characters and places.
Twin Cities Ballet brings A Minnesota Nutcracker back to Northrop on Saturday, Dec. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 20, 2026. It's the holiday classic you know, but with a local twist: instead of the traditional setting, Clara runs into Minnesota characters and places. You'll see the state Capitol's golden horses, a Mississippi River paddleboat, Vikings, and the state bird and flowerβthe loon and the lady's slipper. Minnesota Public Radio named it one of the twelve essential holiday events, and the company bills it as entertainment for the whole family.
There are three performances over the weekend. On Saturday, Dec. 19, there's a 1:30 PM matinee and a 6 PM evening show; on Sunday, Dec. 20, it's a 2 PM matinee. All three are at the Carlson Family Stage at Northrop, 84 Church Street SE in Minneapolis.
That Saturday evening show at 6 PM is a Relaxed/Sensory Friendly Performance. The house lights stay at a glow, sound levels are lowered, and the audience is warned of any surprises. People can come and go as needed, with ushers trained to accommodate movement and sound. If you're bringing kids who get restless or anyone who finds a standard theater environment overwhelming, that's the one to aim for.
