A monster-themed disco at Exchange Square with giant monster friends, fancy dress and dance floor prizes, part of the MCR Monsters trail.
The Monsters Disco takes over Exchange Square on Saturday 24 October, one of the big moments of the MCR Monsters / Halloween in the City Weekender. It's a free, city-wide celebration that runs across eight days of the October half term, and the disco is one of its centrepieces. The whole thing is organised by the Manchester City Centre Business Improvement District and sponsored by Swizzels.
If you've been around the city for a while, you'll know the MCR Monsters. They've been a staple of Manchester's Halloween for a decade, and this year marks their 10th anniversary with their biggest celebration to date and their longest trail ever. The giant inflatable creatures were created by artists Filthy Luker and Pedro Estrellas and brought to life by Designs in Air, inspired by the city's own monsters. They pop up at landmarks across town, including Manchester Arndale, Selfridges, the Corn Exchange, the Science and Industry Museum and the AO Arena.
The disco turns Exchange Square into an open-air dancefloor where you dance alongside four of those giant monster friends. There are fancy dress accessories on hand, and prizes for the best moves on the floor, so it's as much about what you bring as what's there. It's a family-friendly one, and since it's outdoors in the square, it's easy to drop into while you're out and about.
