Touring revival of the musical Little Shop of Horrors, directed and choreographed by Carrie-Anne Ingrouille, at Hope Mill Theatre.
Little Shop of Horrors is coming to Hope Mill Theatre from Saturday 17 October to Sunday 29 November, a six-week run that puts the musical right in the heart of Manchester. It's a bold new revival of the show by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, staged by Thomas Hopkins Productions and SAMS Entertainment in partnership with Hope Mill.
If you're coming to it for the first time, the story starts with a struggling florist who discovers a strange, singing plant that brings him fame and fortune in exchange for a rather gruesome diet. The music is Menken's, the lyrics are Ashman's, and the whole thing is based on the original Roger Corman film. This particular production arrives in Manchester as part of a national tour, and the timing has a bit of a hook to it: the revival coincides with the 40th anniversary of that original film.
There's a fair bit of weight behind the creative team on this one. Carrie-Anne Ingrouille is directing and choreographing, and she's a Tony and Olivier award nominee known for her work on SIX. Morgan Large is handling the set, costume and puppet design—and given the plant is the star of the show, the puppet design is probably the part you'll be watching most closely. Between the two of them, the staging should have plenty of energy, with the choreography and the puppet work doing a lot of the heavy lifting.
