The Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical Hadestown on its UK and Ireland tour at the Lyric Theatre at The Lowry.
Hadestown is coming to the Lyric Theatre at The Lowry in Salford from 9 to 20 March 2027. It's part of the show's first ever UK and Ireland tour, which runs from February to November 2027, so this is the Manchester stop of a much larger run.
It's a folk opera that retells the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice alongside that of Hades and Persephone, set in an industrial underworld. The music blends New Orleans trad jazz, folk Americana and indie theatre, and it's written by AnaΓ―s Mitchell, who also wrote the original concept album the show grew out of. The production is directed by Rachel Chavkin, with choreography by David Neumann and music direction and vocal arrangements by Liam Robinson. Chavkin also directed Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812.
Before it hit the West End, the show won eight Tony Awards and a Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album, and it's been seen by over six million people. It also earned an Olivier nomination for Best Musical Revival. The Manchester dates are part of the production's first tour across the UK and Ireland, which runs from February to November 2027, so this is the first time it's come to the region.
