Free live music from The Sunday Boys, a low-voiced LGBTQ+ choir, within the Festive Voices programme at Aviva Studios.
The Sunday Boys are performing at The Social, Aviva Studios on Sunday 10 January, from 1.15pm to 2.15pm. It's a free performance, though you'll need to book your place in advance. The set runs for about an hour, so it's a relatively short, early-afternoon thing that fits easily around a Sunday.
For those who haven't come across them, The Sunday Boys are a low-voiced LGBTQ+ choir based right here in Manchester. They were started back in January 2016 by composer and conductor Michael Betteridge, who set them up to give the city's LGBTQ+ low voices a chance to socialise and learn to sing together. Since then, the choir has grown and performed across the country, but it's kept that same open-access approach: it's open to anyone in the low-voice range who wants to sing in an inclusive, friendly environment. If you're a low voice yourself, it's as much a community as it is a choir.
This particular performance is part of Aviva Studios' festive programme, which brings local choirs, bands and workshops into the venue throughout the season. The Sunday Boys are one of the local acts taking a turn on the bill, so it's a good chance to hear them in a proper studio setting rather than a rehearsal room or a smaller community space.
