The Book of Darkness & Light Theatre Company bring A Christmas Carol to HOME from Wednesday 9 to Saturday 12 December. It's a solo adaptation of Dickens' classic, adapted and performed by Adam Z. Robinson, who plays 28 characters across the course of the show.
This isn't the cosy, festive version you might be expecting. It's a darker, gothic retelling that follows Ebenezer Scrooge through Christmas past, present and future, and it leans into the ghost story side of the original. The whole thing is built on immersive storytelling, haunting soundscapes and eerie recorded voices, with Robinson on stage alone playing every single part himself. If you've seen the story a hundred times, the draw here is seeing one actor carry the whole cast on his own.
It's the latest from The Book of Darkness & Light Theatre Company, whose previous work includes original plays like SHIVERS and Upon the Stair. This particular production of A Christmas Carol has been staged both nationally and internationally, so it's a well-travelled piece that's finally making its way to Manchester.
