Two-day masterclass with comedy coach Chris Head on writing crime comedy, inspired by the British Library's 'Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery' exhibition.
Chris Head is running a two-day writing masterclass on crime comedy at the H M Weinrebe Learning Centre in the British Library, on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November. It's for over-18s, and the whole thing runs from 10.30 to 17.00 both days.
The Saturday is about the foundations and the narrative, with writing exercises that take their lead from the Library's Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery exhibition. The Sunday moves into sketch and scene work, and the weekend finishes with a rehearsed reading in the Library's Pigott lecture theatre, where two professional guest actors help bring the participants' crime-comedy scenes to life.
Head is a comedy coach who teaches comedy writing for BBC Writers, at the British Library and Bath Spa University, and coaches stand-up comedy worldwide. The course draws on classic crime comedy like The Goon Show and Monty Python alongside more contemporary examples, such as Michelle Wolf's stand-up, How to Get to Heaven From Belfast and Only Murders in the Building.
