Contemporary dance piece 'Islands' by Wang Yeu-Kwn and Shimmering Production, a dialogue with Indonesian dancer Danang Pamungkas, at Sadler's Wells.
Wang Yeu-Kwn brings Islands to Sadler's Wells on 2 and 3 February 2027, performing in the Lilian Baylis Studio. It's the second part of his trilogy A Trilogy β Quest of Relationships, which opened with Beings, a piece inspired by the Chinese character 'δΊΊ' (person) that played out the relationship between the character's two supporting calligraphy strokes, between two performers, and between rice paper and ink.
Islands itself grew out of a 2019 trip to Indonesia in search of a giant fish, and for this one Yeu-Kwn invites Indonesian dancer Danang Pamungkas into a dialogue built on physical and lived experience. The work runs 55 minutes with no interval and forms part of The Rose Prize 2027 / The Bloom Prize 2027.
Yeu-Kwn is the founder and artistic director of Shimmering Production, a Taiwanese contemporary experimental dance company. He's a former Cloud Gate 2 dancer turned choreographer, and he describes his work as exploring the connections and disconnections between people, environments and cultures. Before this, he was a Bloom Prize finalist for Beings and a 2025-2026 Artist-in-Residence at the National Theater & Concert Hall of Taiwan.
