Grammy-nominated folk duo The Milk Carton Kids play the Barbican with support from Vera Sola, with under-14s required to be accompanied by someone aged 16 or over.
The Milk Carton Kids play Barbican Hall on Thursday 14 January 2027, with support from Vera Sola. The set will draw from their new album, Lost Cause Lover Fool, which comes out on 24 April, alongside the Grammy-nominated folk and Americana songs they've built their reputation on.
Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan formed the duo in Eagle Rock, California, back in 2011. Their sound is built on tight vocal harmonies and intricate guitar interplay, played on a 1951 Gibson J45 and a 1954 Martin 0-15. There's no backing band, and their stage manner mixes precision with dry, off-the-cuff humour. Across seven studio albums, they've earned four Grammy nominations, including Best Folk Album nods for The Ash & Clay and Monterey, and Best American Roots Performance for City of Our Lady. They've collaborated with Americana artists like Rosanne Cash, Sara Bareilles and Josh Ritter, contributed to soundtracks including Promised Land and Girls5eva, and founded the Los Angeles Folk Festival.
Lost Cause Lover Fool adds banjo, percussion and choral textures to their minimalist folk. The Barbican show will be one of the first chances to hear those new arrangements live, alongside the older material. Vera Sola opens the night.
