Free outdoor Halloween adventure where families use the Stranger Folk app to complete a folklore quest around Morden Hall Park.
Stranger Folk is running at Morden Hall Park throughout October and November, a free digital adventure game for families to play across the grounds. It's built around an app, and it's designed for children aged 7 to 12 to play with imaginative adults. The game turns the park into an interactive quest full of stories, challenges and mythical creatures, so you'll be moving around the site rather than sitting in one spot.
This particular chapter is Volume 1, Crone Calling, which opens with a message from a mysterious Old Crone. Her followers have to gather their team, harness the elements and seal a rift between the human and spirit worlds before sneaky goblins, cunning beggars and boggarts can take hold. The whole thing is inspired by British folklore, so the creatures and the setup pull from that rather than a generic fantasy world.
In Morden Hall Park, the autumn colours and the mist rising over the river set the scene, and there are spooky props to discover along the way. You only need one mobile phone per family to play, and you can take it at your own pace: it takes about 20 minutes if you move quickly, or you can stretch it out and play all day. It's an outdoor, drop-in experience, and it's wheelchair-accessible.
