Stand-up show by Stewart Lee billed as his national tour, in which he faces off against the werewolf comedian The Man-Wulf.
Stewart Lee brings his national tour to the New Wimbledon Theatre on Saturday 7 November, with the show titled Stewart Lee vs The Man-Wulf. It's a strange setup: Lee shares the stage with The Man-Wulf, a tough-talking werewolf comedian from the dark forests of the subconscious who hates humanity. The Man-Wulf lays down a ferocious comedy challenge to a Lee that the show frames as approaching sixty, physically enfeebled and with a diminished TV profile.
Much of the material reaches back across Lee's career. He touches on his early days working with Richard Herring, the worldwide controversy that followed Jerry Springer the Opera, and his later work on Comedy Vehicle. It's a set that draws on his history as much as it looks forward, and the Man-Wulf serves as the foil he's up against for the evening.
Lee has a reputation that precedes him. The Times called him 'the world's greatest living stand-up', and an official Channel 4 survey of the 100 Greatest Stand-ups Ever put him at number 41. If you've followed him for years, you'll recognise the way he builds a bit and then spends the next twenty minutes taking it apart; if you're coming to him fresh, this is a good place to see how he works.
